Willow Trail offers a contemporary twist on William Morris's timeless 'Willow' design. Its fine lines echo the delicate intricacy of embroidery stitches, punctuated by subtle flashes of contrasting colour. Hand- drawn in the Liberty studio using fine ink pens, this design showcases a trailing, foliage-filled pattern that flows gracefully and brims with tactile textures.
Nina Petals was originally designed for the AW13 Liberty seasonal collection, drawing inspiration from William Morris's poem ‘Earthly Paradise.’ Morris's art and poetry vividly capture the five senses, reflecting his appreciation for colour, sound, scenery, fragrance, and the beauty of the natural world. Inspired by the warm, amber fragrance of sandalwood, this timeless and versatile design features a multi-layered tapestry of simplified leafy sprigs.
Inspired by an archival design from the mid-1970s, this traditional paisley pays homage to the exquisite 1880s block-printed Kashmir shawls of the Liberty emporium. Meticulously redrawn to preserve the intricate details of the original, this richly decorated pattern showcases elegant swirls of boteh motifs intertwined with stylized florals and feathery leaves.
William Morris drew inspiration for his plant forms from both his own garden and the wildflowers and trees he encountered on countryside walks. In an 1881 lecture, he argued that the ideal pattern should evoke 'unmistakable suggestions of gardens and fields.' Inspired by this philosophy, Montgomery Jungle celebrates the simple yet beautifully intricate natural forms of foliage. Hand-drawn in the Liberty studio using a fine liner pen, the delicate details are meticulously captured through a traditional one-color rotary print.
