We take effortless style literally at Charles Tyrwhitt – that's why we created our famous non-iron shirts. Their innovative crease-free cotton caused quite a stir when it was first introduced, but these days, quality shirts are expected to be wrinkle-resistant. Easy to wear and even easier to care for, the non-iron shirt has become an essential foundation piece of every business outfit or smart-casual look.
Let's be honest – not many of us enjoy ironing. But avoiding that chore is only part of the reasoning behind our super-smooth finishes. We also want you to make it from morning to evening in a shirt that stays looking crisp and fresh. Creases simply don't happen in our expertly constructed styles, so you'll look as immaculate at close of business as you did when you reached your desk.
PRESSED TO IMPRESS
So, how do non-iron shirts work? Firstly, we ensure that we only use long staple cotton in our shirts. The longer these cotton fibres, the finer the yarn, the smoother and stronger the fabric. Then we take a pure cotton shirt and put it through a high-temperature process with special resins that stabilise the fibres. This creates a lasting, crease-free finish. A Tyrwhitt shirt typically has 63 components, which could give those sneaky wrinkles plenty of opportunities to creep in. How do we avoid this?
Well, first we make sure that your shirt is 100% crumple-resistant by tailoring it. We’ve even added technical details like interlining fabric and taped seams to create a sort of ‘shirt skeleton’ to ensure your shirt stays in shape. Second, we put the entire garment through the non-iron finishing treatment. This way, every part of your shirt has non-wrinkling properties – although we do insist on those impeccable shoulder-to-cuff creases.

Sharp shirt, but trousers that look a little lived-in? Unless it's Zoom only, that's never a good look. Fortunately, as well as treating our popular non-iron shirts, we've applied our renowned crease-proof magic to other garments too. Crease-free Travel Suits make sure your look is as smooth as your pitch, even straight off the flight (or train). Team your non-iron casual shirt with a pair of crumple-proof chinos for a neat finish. After all, what's the point in wrinkle-resistant shirts if you still have to iron the trousers?
IRONING BORED? HOW TO WASH AND DRY NON-IRON SHIRTS
Caring for our non-iron men's shirts is as easy as it sounds. First, remove the brass collar stays – they can stain the shirt and you really don't want them stuck in your washing machine filter. Wash at 40°C and stick to a slow spin, as you need to keep the fabric slightly damp. You can now either hang your garment to dry or give it a cool tumble (drying on a low heat actually helps to activate the non-iron properties). Lastly, always place your shirt on a hanger, so that it naturally falls into the right shape. Oh, and did we mention you don't need to iron it? If any small creases remain they will smooth out when worn, all with your very own body heat!
